ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Brian Swanson's Retreat creates a shaded seating area of trellises, plants, and repurposed farming equipment from the arid Tri-Cities area surrounding Columbia Basin College in Southeast Washington.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Columbia Basin College.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Artist Brian Swanson creates sculptures and installations for public spaces, often incorporating found objects, tools, and machinery. He received an Associate's degree from Rock Valley College, in Rockford, Illinois. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a teaching certificate in 1974 at Western Illinois University, and an Master of Arts degree in sculpture in 1980 from Central Washington University.
