Red Horse Capture, 1991

John Buck
(American, born 1946)

Location: Washington State University, Pullman

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

John Buck's Red Horse Capture depicts the essence of thought. Buck begins his sculptures in wood—enjoying its soft malleability—but then later casts them in bronze, a medium he likes for its permanence and ability to maintain the appearance of wood grain and the warmth of the artist's marks.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Washington State University.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Montana artist John Buck works mainly with bronze and wood. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Kansas City Art Institute and School of Design in Missouri and Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Davis. His art has been exhibited across the U.S. and is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City, Seattle Art Museum, and many more.
