ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Marita Dingus' sculpture recalls the beauty of rediscovered objects and the textile traditions of women, bringing to mind the idea of shedding light onto that which is often overlooked.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Lake Washington Technical College.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Seattle-based artist Marita Dingus creates multimedia sculptures using recycled and "discarded" materials. Informed by her experiences as an African-American woman, Dingus' artworks explore identity and social justice. She received her BFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and both an MA and MFA from San Jose State University.
