ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Liz Mapelli was inspired by the Madrone Tree, with its peeling bark, dark green leaves, white flowers, and orange-red berries. She created thirteen glass discs inspired by the lifecycle of the Madrone. These discs hang in a stairwell and at the entrance.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Highline School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Former Skamania County, Washington-based public artist Liz Mapelli created large-scale glass artwork. She designed and installed her work as individual pieces or entire walls, floors, and ceilings. Departing from glass work, she now focuses on printmaking in her home in Guanajuato, Mexico.
