ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artist Sheila Wyne's "Flight from a Small World" is based on the geometry of the golden spiral, connecting students to this mathematical and visually harmonious formula.

This artwork was acquired for the State Art Collection in partnership with Sumner School District.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sheila Wyne is an Anchorage, Alaska-based sculptor. She creates constructions and artworks that reflect the objects, stories, and collective experiences of living among Northern communities, and within a global environment. She is part of an Anchorage collective of artists that create site-specific artworks and interventions called The Light Brigade. In 2009, she was honored with the Alaskan Governor's Award for Individual Artist.
