Artist Rae Mahaffey is a Portland-based painter. She creates large-scale patterns, painting them slowly, deliberately building layers as a part of her process. The lengthy time she spends on her paintings is a reaction to the fast-paced society of the digital world. Mahaffey studied at Western Washington University’s Fairhaven College in Bellingham, at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark, and the University of Washington in Seattle.
